Itinerary
Welcome on arrival at Guwahati Airport / Station and transfer to Shillong (130 KMS / 3 hrs drive). Enroute visit Umiam Lake - created by damming the Umiam River in the early 1960s. The principal catchment area of the lake and dam is spread over 220 square km. Shillong - the capital of British-created Assam until 1972 – and is now the capital and hill station of Meghalaya, also known as "The Abode of Clouds", one of the smallest states in India. Overnight in Shillong.
After breakfast drive to Mawlynnong, the cleanest village in Asia (100 kms / 3 hrs drive approx.), also known as ‘God’s own Garden’. With over 80 households, the village gives the ambiance of walking in a well-maintained park! Climb the 80 ft Sky Walk at Mawlynnong village for a bird’s eye view of the Village, the plantations and faraway plains of Bangladesh. You will also be acquainted to the Khasi lifestyle, their culture and economy. A trek to the nearby Rewai Village is another interesting activity. Walk down a flight of almost 100 steps to witness nature’s wonder, living-root bridge. The bridges are tangles of massive thick roots, which the local people inter-twine to form a bridge that can hold several people at a time. The root bridges may be up to over a hundred feet long and take ten to fifteen years to become fully functional, but they become very strong in the process. The bridges live and keep growing and strengthen over time. The useful lifespan of the bridges is thought to be 500–600 years.
Drive Further 30 Kms from Mawlynnong to reach Dawki. Dawki, name is famous because of international trade border town to Bangladesh. The Drive to Dawki is a beautiful drive along with Bangladesh border, covered with betel nut trees and a thrilling experience to drive around lots of waterfalls. You can see people from Bangladesh working and fishing in this river being in the Indian side of the Border. Before reaching the bordering town, you will come across with this bluish water river which is known as Umngot River. Dawki village is known for limestone business and other international trade with Bangladesh and weekly market allows people from both sides to tread their stuffs. Later proceed to Shillong for overnight stay. Note: It is advisable to carry packed lunch to Mawlynnong. Boating on direct payment basis at Dawki.
Morning enjoy breakfast & set out for a day trip to Cherrapunjee (60 Kms / 2hrs one way). It is the traditional capital of the Nongkhlaw hima (Khasi tribal chieftainship) known as Sohra or Churra. Later proceed for local sightseeing covering the Dwan Syiem view point; The Noh Kalikai Falls – the water plunges down from a height of 1115ft – making it the highest waterfall in India. Local legend says this to be the point from where the Khasi lady Li-kai jumped to her death; Trek through some of the amazing terrain and watch a great variety of birds. Visit the Ramakrishna Mission & the beautiful waterfall just beside the Ashram. Mawsmai Caves – the most accessible limestone cave in Meghalaya. The network of caves spread over a vast area but is being damaged by cement companies mining for limestone. Only a portion is open to guests for exploring and enjoying the natural formations of stalactites and stalagmites and as well as the Seven Sister falls which is also referred to as the Mawsmai Falls or Nohsngithiang Falls & is spread over a stretch of 70 mts and height of 1033ft. The falls are especially beautiful and alluring to look at during the monsoons. Later return back to Shillong (60 kms / 2 hrs one way). Overnight in Shillong.
Morning after Breakfast, Enjoy Half day sightseeing of Shillong.Shillong - The ‘Gleneagle of the East’ lies in the centre of a plateau surrounded by Khasi hills. The gorgeous city offers amazing tourist spots. The city’s own Ward’s Lake is popular for short garden walks & boating. The
Botanical Garden offers plethora of indigenous and exotic plants & rare collection of orchids. Lady Hydari Park is a Japanese style landscaped park endowed with streaches of roses & exquisite flowers. The Mini zoo adjacent to the park has about 73 birds, 140 reptiles & mammals. One of the largest Golf courses in Asia is an 18 hole Golf Course is charted amidst a surging valley full of thick pine groves & rhododendron trees. Spend the evening in the splendid arena! The State Museum is a display of the lifestyle and heritage of the people of Meghalaya. Later, drive to Guwahati, Check In at Hotel. Overnight at Guwahati.
Morning, Visit to Kamakhya Temple – one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Pithas Situated on the Nilachal Hill in western part of Guwahati city in Assam, India, it is the main temple in a complex of individual temples dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas: Kali, Tara, Sodashi, Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi, Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala. Later Visit to visit to Umananda Temple – Shiva temple located at the Peacock Island in the middle of river Brahmaputra just opposite the Kachari Ghat in Guwahati. It is known as smallest inhabited riverine island in the world. Country boats that are available on the bank of Brahmaputra take the visitors to the island. The mountain on which the temple has been built is known as Bhasmacala.

Later Visit to Sankardev Kalakhetra – Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra is the cultural complex, named after the most revered Saint of Assam, Srimanta Sankardev and provides a glimpse into Assamese culture & heritage. It has a cultural museum, library and various facilities for preserving, demonstrating and performing cultural items, besides a children’s park within the sprawling premises. The Central Museum exhibits culture and heritage of different ethnic groups of Assam showcasing their dance, drama, music and art. Another famed attraction in the Kalakshetra is an Artistic Village. This Assamese village portrays the village life of Assam in the form of life like statues and model thatched huts. Later at evening free for Shopping / individual activity. Overnight stay at Guwahati.
